So, last night, with their 16th and 26th picks, the Bulls selected forwards James Johnson, from Wake Forest, and Taj Gibson, from USC. To each of these picks, I had the same reaction: "Who????"
BUT. Something really, really good—and I can't emphasize that enough—happened last night, as well. With the 13th pick, the Indiana Pacers decided to take Tyler Hansbrough. Now you may ask yourself, "Dave, you don't like Tyler Hansbrough! In fact, you sort of hate him. So why should such news make you happy??" Well, let me tell you: if he'd been there at 16, the Bulls would have taken him. Without a second thought. As if we don't already have the same goddamned player in Joakim "Clown Shoes" Noah. Anyhow, thank you Indiana Pacers. He's your fucking problem, now.

I have a new journal style. I'm not quite sure why I feel the need to share that, but I do.
So go: spread forth the word and have many a nuanced discussion about this most momentous of days.

As mine eyes gaze upon walls adjacent
and catch glimpse of yon White Sox calendar,
I warm with a measure of elation
and spy the date, twenty into April.
But wilst thou join in my celebration?
Wilst thou commemorate that true genius?
Stricken by awe and pure concentration,
I craft my offering to thine words past.
Today we celebrate the creation
of words and prose that withstand and endure
the ravages of time, from thence nascent.
And I shalt echo my best, thine speakings.
Verily, friends, there is nothing too hard:
Toss modern away, and speak like the Bard.

…and then this happens:
WARNING! THIS STORY IS NOT FILLED WITH PUFFY PINK CLOUDS AND UNICORNS, IF YA KNOW WHAT I'M SAYIN'.
( My reaction )
MOLE'S LESSON OF THE DAY: When confronted with a wild and dangerous animal, try to refrain from pausing to take pictures of it. Not only will this be confusing and possibly enraging to said wild and dangerous animal, it also wastes valuable time that should be spent getting other people in between this animal and yourself.

Yes, that's my Kentucky Wildcats. They've been making this sound for much of the season, and they've only gotten louder in recent weeks. I have no illusions of them making the NCAA Tournament, not since they lost their last four games going into the SEC Tournament. Pretty much the most interesting thing left will be seeing whether or not they accept the NIT bid they're sure to receive (I would—I mean, it's money for the school). Anyhow, I figured I should open up the floor to mockery, since it's sure to come my way.
In better sports news, spring has been kind to my White Sox, thus far. Both the 2,000 year-old Jose Contreras and the 2,000 lb Bartolo Colon are way ahead of schedule in coming back from their injuries. Contreras might even be able to take starts in April! If Clayton Richard is your fifth pitcher, and not your fourth, I feel a whole lot better about the rotation. And this Gordon Beckham kid is unbelievable, if spring numbers are to be believed. I'm not thrilled with any of our myriad infielders (Alexei and Paul excluded), so if Becks were able to steal the 2nd base slot, I would not mind. Unfortunately, it seems that my never-ending quest to make Brian Anderson the starting center fielder will continue yet again, this year. IDK what the deal is, he looks more than adequate to me, but the team doesn't seem to like him for some reason. If Jerry Owens starts in center on opening day, I will probably puke.
In even better news, tomorrow is my birthday. Which birthday it is isn't important, but I feel happy, nevertheless. Tonight we go to a nice little French bistro where I shall order l'oignon, erm, soup, la biftek avec pomme frites, and some good-ass French wine (take that, high school French class!)… and probably some yummy dessert, too.
'Kay, that's all I've got right now.

Did anyone else watch that new Castle show on ABC last night (you know, the one with Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic)? I just finished it and I think I like it. Granted, it's a crime procedural—not normally my cup of tea—but it's a little off-beat and I like the characters, so far. Although it's nothing like it in premise, Castle reminded me of Life (which I like) because it seems like it's going to be more of a character-driven show than a ~*freaky cases*~ driven show.
Anyhow, I'm going to watch it again next week and see how things go.

Hello everyone! And Happy New Years wishes for all of you. I have made no resolutions, as those are for suckers. However, whereas last night was for my lovely bottle of Jean Claude Mas Crémant de Limoux, today is for lazing about and watching sports. And possibly a haphazard meme thrown in, as well. WHO KNOWS?!
( Currently, 'sports' includes that outdoor hockey game they are about to play some 11 blocks north from here …and kinda one and a half blocks east, too. This may or may not have something to do with the fighter jets I rant about elsewhere in this post. )
So anyhow, as I look up an hour later, I see that my hockey team is winning! This is quite exciting. Well, maybe not "quite," but it's something. No one can deny that.
ETA: LOOK,
jimmiefearsylar DID A MEME, TOO! I CAN ADD MY OWN VERSION TO THIS POST! HOW VERY EXCITING!
( It's about the first thing you said each month and stuff. Click and you'll see what I mean. )
I do too many memes.
